Happiness Is Simple: 5 Reasons

From all the goals that we strive for, happiness is the easiest to obtain. So don’t complicate matters for yourself. Happiness is very simple.

Seeing the simplicity of happiness

Happiness is the highest goal. It’s what everybody is striving for. No matter what we do, what we plan to accomplish, it all has to lead to our happiness in the end.

And because it’s a goal that everybody is already striving for, and so few people seem to be able to reach it, people tend to have the idea that happiness must be extremely complicated to obtain.

We always feel so strongly that happiness is right around the corner. If you’d lose those ten pounds, or make a little more money, if you’d have that iPad, if your child would have a nicer crib, if you’d be on vacation, if your mother-in-law would be more civilized – THEN you would finally be happy.

Fortunately, many things in life tend to contradict themselves. Happiness appears to be complicated, but fortunately it’s quite simple. And a happy life is one of the goals that is easiest to obtain. So much easier than losing weight, getting rich, remodeling a house or starting a company. Here are five reasons why happiness is simple.

1. You experience happiness without doing something

Happiness is a feeling that will overtake you. This sudden happiness occurs in everybody’s life from time to time. It happens when you’re feeling relaxed, or when you’re suddenly experiencing a sense of gratitude or connection. You’re not doing anything special, but still you’ll suddenly feel intensively happy.

You’re not doing anything to reach your goal, and all of a sudden you will have reached it. How often did that happen when you wanted to get rid of a few pounds?

2. You experience happiness by doing nothing at all

Many beautiful things in life require a lot of work. If you want to live without money trouble, you will have to work for it – if you want to lose weight, then you will have to do exercise and eat healthy. Almost all worthy goals take time, energy, dedication and sacrifice.

Step into the world of happiness, and you will discover the highest achievable goal doesn’t require any work at all. Even better is that you can get that desired feeling of intense happiness by actively doing nothing. That’s right – nothing at all.

Basically, you can say that doing nothing is more complicated for most people than doing something. Just because we’re used to always doing something. Still, doing nothing at all is just a small price to pay for the highest attainable goal. And all it takes is just to sit down every now and then, and focus your attention on what is here at this very moment.

Few people will take the time to do nothing at all. And who would expect that the highest attainable goal doesn’t require any effort at all? That contradicts everything we’ve learned. So that is why most people are looking for happiness by doing something, and they will keep on searching.

3. You don’t have to obtain happiness

Happiness is not a final station you can reach. It’s never been that way, not even if your ego has been telling you it is. In reality, happiness is a lot more like a river: a constant stream that has always been there, and which will always stick around. You decide whether you want to go along with the flow.

Your ability to live a happy life has nothing to do with a particular end goal you might reach. It all has to do with your ability to join that flow of happiness. The more often you become part of that stream, the better you will start to feel.

4. You need very little to become happy

What do you really need to feel happy? In the absolute sense: only yourself. In a more practical perspective there are more things you require: a foundation, the bottom of the Maslow pyramid. Food, water, clothing, security and love.

What you don’t necessarily need is a much longer list with things that you desire. A new house, an amazing body, a new cellphone, etc.

Happiness is simple because it requires so little. As long as you can live a normal life, it’s possible for pretty much everybody to experience happiness. That includes you, despite of the long list of things you may desire.

5. You can always experience happiness

Happiness is easiest when you’re relaxed and not worrying too much. That’s also the reason why most people feel happier on vacation than they do at home. But even though the circumstances make it easier to be happy, doesn’t mean that happiness is only possible under those circumstances.

You can always experience happiness. Life doesn’t always have to be beautiful and perfect to experience happiness. The better you’ll become at catching that flow from the stream of happiness, the easier it will become to experience happiness in all kinds of circumstances. From vacation to cremation.

Happiness is not only and always about joy. It’s also about gratitude, love and wonderment. Life can’t always be fun, but you can always find a way to hitch a ride on the stream of happiness.
